“Oh my gosh!” When I stepped inside the kitchen and saw Henry sitting at the table, I couldn’t stop myself from throwing my body at his.

A laugh left his lips as I fell into his lap. Hitting the table, he had to reach out to stop his cup of coffee from spilling.

“I don’t think anyone has ever been so excited to see me,” he pointed out with a grin, “what’s the special occasion?”

“You’ve been gone for so long,” I groaned, dragging out my words, “you’re terrible.”

“And now you’ve insulted me.” Grinning, he tightened his arms securely around my waist and pulled me tight against his body. “But if you must know, I would have much rather been here than at my place. Too much commotion.”

“How’d the birth go?” I asked, feeling more comfortable here than in the seat next to him.

“Smoothly. The vet was a little worried at first, but after a few days, everything was fine.” Resting his chin against my shoulder, he breathed in. “Were the other two alright while I was gone?”

“Very behaved,” I teased, laughing. Pausing, I remembered what I had done with one of the men in particular. Knowing I needed to be honest, I sighed. “Charlie and I got a little closer.”

It was harder to say it out loud than I thought.

Henry didn’t look bothered, smirking instead. His arms pulled me closer.

“Charlie’s a good guy, you know. He called me yesterday, apologizing.” Talking normally, he sounded amused.

Oh god, he knew. He’d known for all this time and hadn’t even bothered messaging me. Henry wanted to wait until he could face me to call me out.

“I’m sorry. I should have told you,” I immediately apologized, hoping it would soften the blow.

Henry snorted, shaking his head. “Not you too.”

I was so confused. Why was he laughing? After admitting his feelings, he should be furious to have learned another man had done something so heated with me.

“You aren’t mad at either of us?” I asked, stiffening against his lap. “He apologized for the right thing, didn’t he?”

“The only thing I’m mad about is the fact he did it in such a public place. No one should get to hear the sounds you make besides us,” he murmured against my shoulder. “I did scold him for that. Plus, I couldn’t be too angry. I mean, I got close to you despite knowing how much of a crush the guy has on you.”

Henry couldn’t be serious. He was playing a joke on me, obviously. Instead of getting upset with me, he planned on making me suffer through the guilt I felt. Well, it was working.

“Wait a second.” Hopping off his lap, I twisted around to get a better look at him. “Mabel didn’t say anything to you, did she?”

If my grandmother had put the idea of being shared into my head, it wouldn’t have surprised me if she had tried the same with Henry. I could already picture it.

Her lonely granddaughter with no life and no friends needed some attention.
